Getting their family to spend more time outdoors was important to Tom and Michelle Maiden, homeowners in Shenandoah Junction, WV. So they needed to find a way to maximize their two-acre lot.

When an architect estimated it would cost around $20,000 just to draft the pool house design plans, Tom and Michelle knew it was time to look for a company capable of tackling the whole project.

Enter Homestead Structures in New Holland, PA.

Designing the Maidens’ Haven

The couple met with Steven Lapp, one of Homestead’s outdoor living specialists, to share their ideas, and it wasn’t long until Homestead provided the Maidens with free mockups of their dream pool house.

The idea of providing customers with complimentary designs during the planning process is to help build trust and confidence. It’s Homestead’s job to ensure our interpretation of our customer’s vision is as accurate as possible before the project moves into production.

During a trip to Annapolis, MD, the Maidens spotted an architectural feature that instantly sparked a design change: rounder windows. They contacted Homestead Structures, and we were easily able to pivot the project to make that switch.

Features of The Maidens’ Custom Pool House

This unique and multifunctional custom Avalon Pool House in West Virginia boasts many upgraded features that make this practical storage structure suited for outdoor entertainment and comfort.

Just a few add-ons this pool house features include…

  • Outdoor shower with pergola roof

  • Outdoor oven

  • L-shaped wet bar with refrigerator cutout and sink

  • Interior and exterior electrical packages

  • Storage loft

  • Bathroom and changing room

Why invest in an outdoor shower? Outdoor showers and bathrooms help reduce traffic in the home, in turn reducing or eliminating wet carpets and slippery messes. With five children, it made sense for the Maidens to take precautions to avoid those risks.

In addition to practical upgrades, the Maidens personalized their family pool house with these aesthetic touches:

  • Cathedral ceiling with timber frame rafters and whitewashed tongue and groove board

  • Reverse gable

  • 10’ wide custom dormer

  • LP shake siding

  • LED strip lighting

  • 3-panel Origin bi-fold door

After the installation, they added televisions, refrigerators, outdoor furniture, and other accessories to make it even more personalized. Now, as a result of their close collaboration with Homestead Structures, the Maiden family can beat the West Virginian summer heat and enjoy more quality time outdoors.
